First Year Baby Photo Ideas

First Year Photos - Ari 1 MonthCelebrating Milestones With Photos

Our little boy now one month old and we celebrated this milestone by taking lots of photos. First year baby photos are a great way to document the size and growth of children and it is a really fun way to create memories that will last forever.

Milestone Cards

I really wanted to get milestone cards for my first year photos. I think they are super cute. However, the first milestone card starts at week one, and then goes on to week two, week four and week eight. I felt like I was a bit too late to use the official milestone cards because I started the photos when my baby was 1 month old. I personally prefer to track my baby’s date on the day of the month rather than by the week. So I decided to write my own growth date on a blackboard instead.

Set Up For 1st Year Photos:

After searching Pinterest for a bit of inspiration, I decided to test out a few of my own ideas. Here are three different photo set ups that can be used for a baby’s first year photos:

1. The Blackboard Photo

First I started with writing “one month” on a blackboard and sitting it next to the baby on my bed with a white background. I used the same blackboard from my weekly pregnancy photos. Although the photo turned out super cute, I think that the blackboard was way too big in the photo and that it might be difficult to get good photos as the baby grows older.

2. The Toy Photo

Next I tried placing a red monkey toy next to my baby instead of using the blackboard. I think this looked really cute and it produced a softer photo. Over time, I will continue to take photos on a white background and it will be fun to watch the size of the toy get smaller as my baby grows bigger. The toy will be fun for a while but the downside is that it will only last a few years. At some stage my baby boy wont want to play with the toy anymore.

Without the blackboard I didn’t have anyway to document the growth date so I used digital text instead. I used the Little Moment’s Ap by Fat Mum Slim to edit the photo with digital text.First Year Photos - Ari 1 Month

3. The Chair Photo

This beautiful teal blue chair has a lot of sentimental value to me. The chair is actually 40 years old and it used to sit in my Grandfather’s TV room. My grandfather sadly passed away last year around the same time that we discovered that we were pregnant.

Perhaps that is why it is my favourite set up for the first year photos. However, taking photos on a chair means that I will be able to continue the series as my baby grows through the years. I can take a photo on the chair when he turn one, and when he turns five, or when he starts high school or even on his 21st birthday.

For this reason, I think that I like the chair photo set up the best. I can’t wait to put together my 12 month collection.First Year Photos - Ari 1 Month

 Ari at One Month

Ari has changed and grown a little bit every day. At one month, he looks bigger, he weighs more and his size 0000 clothes are starting to get tight on him. He doesn’t have much hair but I notice that it has grown significantly. Although his hair is quite fair, it changes colour. Sometimes it starts to look darker but there was one day when he actually looked like a red head.

His eyes started as a really dark colour and then they changed to blue and then grey and then back to blue again. My dad has blue eyes. I have green eyes and my husband has brown eyes. It will be interesting to see what eye colour he ends up with.

Ari eats really well… he is a guts and gulps his milk. He likes to vomit in my hair, especially on the days that I blow dry and straighten it. He sleeps all the time and he only wakes up if he is hungry or uncomfortable. He is a really good baby.

Between 8-11am in the mornings, Ari’s eyes are open and he is really alert. We use this time to read books, listen to music and play just before he has a bath. Then by lunch time, we usually have visitors come over for cuddles. So far, Ari has had close to 70 visitors. He is very loved.

It has been an amazing month!

  1. Adorable! I’ve got soooo many photos that I keep having to upload and print off – I’m now having to estimate how old he was in each one because I can’t keep up!

    1. Does your phone track the date that you took the photo Ekaterina? That might help! I know that when I upload my photos to my “iPhoto” ap on the computer I keep all the stats like the date and time the photo was taken with.

      1. Iphoto is a great tool for sorting and organising all your photos. It splits photos in to events automatically based on date and you can also tag people’s faces. I love it!

      2. Ye I use iPhoto but I then organise into separate folders and put onto a back up disc because I have no storage left so have to clear iPhoto regularly! Bubs got a whole back up disc just for his pics and video!
