Alfred and Constance – Hidden in the Back Streets of Fortitude Valley Brisbane

I heard good things about Alfred and Constance. My hairdresser was the first to tell me to go there. At first, I didn’t take much notice of her recommendation. Don’t get me wrong, I completely trust my hairdresser and I value her opinion about all things new and trendy. I think that I ignored her because I have never heard of this ‘new’ place before and I didn’t know where it was located. But then the name ‘Alfred and Constance’ kept on coming up in conversations. My girlfriends started talking about it, a few of my foodie friends started to go there and I read a review about it on The Weekend Edition

N & I decided to go and see what all the fuss was about. I am so glad that we did!

Alfred and Constance is located on the corner of Alfred St and Constance St. When we got there, it was like this crazy Ah Ha moment… That’s why it’s called Alfred and Constance. I just assumed that the name of the restaurant was the names of the owners. Now I get it.

Once you figure out where it is (and find parking on the street somewhere) you will be pleasantly surprised by the decor, the food and the quality of this cafe/bar/restaurant.

The restaurant is actually really big and there are different seating areas (and a few different bars) around each corner. Each wall is decorated with old furniture and ‘stuff’ like bike seats and first aid kits. Completely random decor, but it works.

Here’s the score card:

Food: 4/5

They lost a mark because they brought us the wrong salad. We actually didn’t notice the mistake until the waitress brought out the correct salad and let us eat both.

Coffee: 5/5

Despite the barista being really cocky and telling us that he was going to make the “best coffee that we have ever tasted” – it was actually pretty good. So full marks here.

Service: 5/5

We were greeted immediately upon arrival. Each staff member had short and friendly chats with us. The mistake with our order was identified and sorted out before we even knew that it happened.

Overall Experience: 5/5

We loved it and would defiantly go back again.

Total Score: 19/20
