Create an Elevator Pitch For Your Blog or Business

What Is Your Elevator Pitch?

If you were in an elevator with another person for about 30 seconds, what would you say? How could you promote your blog/business and talk about what you do in a way that is succinct and engaging?

I’m working on my elevator pitch today for the 31 Days to Build A Better Blog Challenge. I have decided to do this challenge to help me achieve my 2015  blogging goals. If you want to join me and boost your own blogging skills then be sure to download the 31DBBB podcast by Darren Rowse. Search for the “ProBlogger” on iTunes and follow along with the daily episodes and challenges.

I have two blogs, an online shop, a coaching business, a Thermomix business and I am a high school teacher so introducing myself has always been a bit of a mouthful. I tend to adjust my “elevator pitch” depending on who I’m talking to.

My Thermomix Business

If I were to meet someone in a real elevator and talk to them face to face, I would probably pitch my Thermomix business and try to book them in for a demo. Here is what I would say:

“I became a Thermomix Consultant because I think it is a great product and I really want to get one in my kitchen. Would you like to see how it works? Let me cook you lunch one day and I’ll show you why I love it so much.. if you invite 2 or 3 friends over to eat with us then we can call it an ‘official demo’ and you would be helping me to get my own Thermomix 🙂 ”

Some follow on questions would be:

  • Have you seen a Thermomix demonstration before?
  • Do you prefer a week end or a week day?
  • Can you think of anyone else who might like to join us for lunch/see the Thermomix in action?

Greek Weddings & Traditions Blog

However, when I’m talking to people in the Greek community or at a blogging conference I would pitch my Greek Weddings Blog. This is what I usually say:

“I write a blog about Greek Weddings & other Greek Traditions and I sell beautiful handmade products online.”

I then follow up with a question like:

  • Have you been to a Greek wedding before?
  • Where did you get your stefana from when you were married?
  • Would you like to feature your wedding story on my blog?
  • Do you know any Greek wedding businesses that might like to advertise on my business directory?

Sias Place – My Personal Blog

I talk about my personal blog when I’m with other mothers. Mainly because the focus of my personal blog is currently about my little baby boy, baby products and parenting topics. If I’m pitching my personal blog to another mummies I would say something like this:

“I work with some amazing baby brands on my blog who share special discounts with my readers. If you join my mailing list I will send you the promo codes to some products that you might like such as nursing tops, modern cloth nappies or newborn/family photography.”

What would you say to promote your blog or business if you had 30 seconds in an elevator?

Please share your pitch in the comments!
