Practice Cooking With The Thermomix

Practice Cooking With ThermomixIn Training

This week I have been “in training” to become a Thermomix consultant. In just a few short days I have learnt more about food and cooking then I have ever learnt in my entire life.

The first time I turned on a Thermomix was about 24 hours ago. I have been practicing all of the demonstration meals so that I can prepare for my practical cooking test.

Here is what I made in just one day:

  1. Strawberry Sorbet
  2. Herb & Garlic Dip
  3. Coleslaw
  4. Bread and Bread Rolls
  5. Mushroom Rissotto
  6. Chocolate Custard

**You can find the recipes to each of these dishes (plus heaps more) on the Thermomix Recipe Community. Here is the link: http://www.recipecommunity.com.au

The Magic Machine

Number 4 on this list surprised the heck out of me!! Bread!! I have never made bread before in my life. I can not believe that I actually baked a loaf of bread all on my own. My husband is pretty shocked too. Wow. I love this magic machine already – that’s going to be the new name for my thermi – The Magic Machine.

It’s Fool Proof!

Each of the meals were fairly easy to make because the Thermomix TM5 has the recipes stores on a computer chip. The magic machine tells you exactly what to do, step by step. It is literally fool proof – which is exactly what I need since I’m not a very good cook.

What’s Next?

I still need to make more of the demonstration recipes. So today I plan to cook:

  • Hummus
  • Beetroot Salad
  • Pizza Bread
  • Chicken Veluto
  • Vanilla Custard

Body Builder Food

I also want to start experimenting with my husband’s lunch box. My husband is a body builder and he has a very strict diet. I usually make him the exact same lunch every single day but that is only because I am stuck for ideas. I know that the Thermomix will  help me to create some new healthy lunch box ideas for my husband. Both of us are really excited about that!

Body Builder Lunch Box

This is what I currently make for my husbands lunch each day:

  • 6 x Hard Boiled Eggs
  • Chicken, Rice & Veggie Dish
  • Salad with Tuna
  • Yoghurt
  • Chopped veggie sticks like carrots & celery
  • Fruit – Banana, Apple etc
  • Nuts – usually almonds, peanuts or sun flower seeds
  • Fruit pack – peaches
  • Something sweet

The Plan:

My husband eats a lot of food and most of the time his lunch box comes home empty. I’d like to vary these recipes and give my husband some fresh choices each day however it takes me so long to cook it all that I just never get time to think about it. So, here is what I’m going to do:

1: Try to make each of these dishes with the Thermomix

2. Do a cost comparison of this lunch box – e.g. buying yoghurt vs making my own yoghurt

3. Attempt some new recipes that are healthy, paleo and body builder friendly

4. Do a clean up comparison for my daily cooking

The Clean Up Comparison

I hate doing dishes. Seriously, it is the worst part about cooking. I don’t have a dishwasher so I have to clean up every pot and pan by hand (oh, poor me…). What I love about the Thermomix is that I can cook a lot of food all in one bowl and the clean up time is much faster. However I want to time exactly how fast it is in comparison to my normal clean up.

I’m looking forward to doing these experiments.
